Of Mice And Men Vs. The Grapes Of Wrath
My intention was to compare Of Mice and Men to The Grapes of Wrath Film as both stories are written by Steinbeck. So I managed to start the film but got extremely bored after about 30 minutes. So clearly I didn't enjoy watching it but the overall genre seemed similar to that in Of Mice and Men, which at least shows that Steinbeck's background theme is not very varied. If I read/watched Of Mice and Men of my own free will, then maybe I would have abandoned it like I did with the Grapes of Wrath, however I'm glad Of Mice and Men was a book I found interesting to study otherwise I probably wouldn't have understood it as well as I do.
So maybe if there comes another opportunity where I can sit down and watch TGOW again, then I will. But for now, I'm leaving it as unfinished.

I love the picture of the angry grapes! I had a teacher who called The Grapes of Wrath 'The Angry Raisins'. I feel she would have liked that picture, too!
ReplyDeleteI hope that you come back to TGOW one day and have a re-read, it is a harder text, but just as special as OMAM. I just got finished reading another Steinbeck novella, 'The Pearl' - a short fable about what damage wealth can do rather than poverty. I loved it. Just let me know if you would like a lend of it! KB
Thank you, the film didn't really do it for me but I have just started reading the book so I'll see how that goes! I will definitely ask you about it after i've finished TGOW
